REQ.243 Manage security events

This document contains the details of the security requirements related to the definition and management of business process in the organization. This requirement establishes the importance of managing security events by defining a procedure to protect health information in case of emergency.


The organization must define and document a procedure to deal with security events.


  1. HIPAA Security Rules 164.308(a)(1)(i): Security Management Process: Implement policies and procedures to prevent, detect,contain, and correct security violations.

  2. HIPAA Security Rules 164.312(a)(2)(ii): Emergency Access Procedure: Establish (and implement as needed) procedures for obtaining necessary electronic protected health information during an emergency.
