REQ.244 Manage information backup

This document contains the details of the security requirements related to the definition and management of business process in the organization. This requirement establishes the importance of defining and documenting procedures to manage information backup in case of security event.


The organization must define and document a procedure to backup information.


  1. HIPAA Security Rules 164.310(a)(2)(i) Contingency Operations: Establish (and implement as needed) procedures that allow facility access in support of restoration of lost data under the disaster recovery plan and emergency mode operations plan in the event of an emergency.

  2. HIPAA Security Rules 164.310(d)(2)(iv) Data Backup and Storage: Create a retrievable exact copy of electronic protected health information, when needed, before movement of equipment.
